While the Affordable Care Act and emerging medical technologies hold the promise of saving many lives, the costs and inefficiencies of the United States? health-care system pose enormous challenges to its sustainability. To further the conversation about the future of health in America, the School of Medicine is hosting a forum (.pdf) this Friday featuring former White House policy advisor Ezekiel Emanuel, MD, PhD.

A leading expert on the U.S. health-care system, Emanuel will discuss where the system is succeeding, where it is failing and where it is going in the future. He is the vice provost for global initiatives, and the Diane V.S. Levy and Robert M. Levy University Professor and chair of the Department of Medical Ethics and Health Policy at the University of Pennsylvania.
The forum, titled ?The future of health care in America: New hopes, new fears,? will be held from 2:30-4 p.m. in the Akiko Yamazaki & Jerry Yang Lecture Hall, room 130, of the Li Ka Shing Center for Knowledge and Learning. It is free and open to the public.
The discussion will be moderated by Paul Costello, the medical school?s chief communications officer.
